Enchained

I hoped to grow transparent wings..
And journey forth with the rapturous clouds,
I desired to be fragile and cling..
To the leaves of tress, all mighty and proud.

In a trance I was free
And sang half remembered songs
Of a motherland long forgotten
Abandoned, unheeden and forsaken...

My heart wanted to prance..
I needed to move and run
I craved to be the wind..
Fierce, without and within...

Alas! I crumbled down
Torn, broken,soiled and outdone
Your love has fettered me
And I claw at the chains desperately...

I pull them tighter and grasp them harder
But not to be set free..
I am in love with these chains..
Even as they wound and bleed me..
