With Joy In My Heart

With joy in my heart I started singing
Of a friendship, unexpected, so bold,
How to express the joy and fresh ringing
That resounds in all the halls of your soul.

When you are the one someone wants to know,
When you are the one that she seeks to meet,
It gives you a reason to shine, to glow,
To think that you have achieved a great feat.

It happened to me several months ago,
Out of the blue a request, friendship sought.
Never a thought to refuse, to say no.
Always with pride that I entered her thought.

Over the months I had hopes she'd remain,
Over the months of her trials, I was there.
Over the months we would cope with the pain.
Never could she ever doubt my true care.

I asked for nothing, she sought my kindness,
All that she asked was my friendly regard.
Freely and openly I would say yes,
Always aware that her road was too hard.

First there was this one, then came another.
Hers was a difficult road to travel.
I was a true friend, I never blamed her.
She was a true friend, who never did well.

Finally given something to live for
Changes occurred in her life once again.
Past was the open regard as before,
My part was lost and it couldn't remain.

Acceptance again, I hoped could be.
The path I would walk to stay close to her
Had nettles and briars I failed to see.
But, oh, what a privilege I knew for sure.

Now I am waiting again as before.
Doubting, but hoping her heart lets me in.
Friends are so precious, should always mean more,
Don't you agree, always let true love win.
